OFFSHORE WIND FARM EMERGENCY CONTROL CENTER

Pooling Expertise – Saving Lives: Gesellschaft für Maritimes Notfallmanagement mbH (Company for Maritime Emergency Management Ltd.) is the central point of contact for the organization, coordination, and execution of emergency measures for offshore wind farm operators.

THE INITIAL SITUATION

Renewable energies are becoming increasingly important. Wind energy plays a special role in this – not only onshore, but increasingly also in the German areas of the North and Baltic Seas. The first offshore wind farms have commenced operation, and others are under construction or in the planning phase. However, the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of these facilities on the high seas involve a considerable personnel commitment. The approval to operate such facilities, however, is only granted if the operator can present a comprehensive protection and safety concept with project-specific emergency planning.
